125th ANNIVERSARY OF BIRTH OF
DEZSŐ KOSZTOLÁNYI (1885-1936) The poet and writer Dezso Kosztolanyi (Mar. 29, 1885-Nov. 3, 1936), was born in the city of Szabadka (now Serbia). After study at the University of Budapest and a short time in Vienna, became a full-time journalist. His first volume of poetry, The Complaints of a Poor Little Child, was published in 1920 and was the start of an era in which he published a book nearly annually. Beginning in the 1920's he also wrote novels and short stories and translated into Hungarian works by Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll, Thornton Wilder, and Oscar Wilde among others.
