125th ANNIVERSARY OF BIRTH OF
DEZSŐ KOSZTOLÁNYI (1885-1936)

The poet and writer Dezso Kosztolanyi (Mar. 29, 1885-Nov. 3, 1936), was born in the city of Szabadka (now Serbia). After study at the University of Budapest and a short time in Vienna, became a full-time journalist. His first volume of poetry, The Complaints of a Poor Little Child, was published in 1920 and was the start of an era in which he published a book nearly annually. Beginning in the 1920's he also wrote novels and short stories and translated into Hungarian works by Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll, Thornton Wilder, and Oscar Wilde among others.
The 5,000 forint coin was designed by Istvan Hollo.
