In honor of King Willem-Alexander’s fiftieth birthday, the Royal Dutch Mint struck the first official commemorative coin of 2017: the Birthday Commemorative. Because this coin has a royal theme the denomination is different than a standard commemorative coin. Under Dutch law, €50, €20, and silver €10 denominations can be used only for royal themes.
