Hungary. 5,000 Forint 2012. 125th Birthday of Coin Designer, Sculptor and Medallist József Reményi. Proof József Reményi, coin designer, sculptor and medallist, was born in Kassa (modern-day Košice in Slovakia) on January 23, 1887 and died in Budapest on December 25, 1977). He was the sculptor and designer of among others, the first 10, 20 and 50 filler coins of the Forint currency system, as well as an internationally recognized designer of numerous medals in modern classicist and art nouveau style. He was one of the pioneers of Hungarian art of medal making of the 20th century, who along with Ö. Fülöp Beck elevated numismatic art to an artistic rank and gained international recognition. The obverse of the coin recalls one of the female figures holding a jug from Reményi's work 'The Daughters of Danaus', in the form of a plaque. A portrait of Reményi in his later years by the designer Mihály Fritz is found on back of the coin. This coin is offered in proof quality only.
